Unemployment is considered as one of the main issues hampering the socio-economic development of Cambodia. The mismatch between the skills supplied and the skills demanded in the labor market is seen to be one of its grassroots. Having been established since 2000, the Cambodian Federation of Employers and Business Associations (CAMFEBA) as representative of private sector enterprises and private sector associations has an important role to play in the labour market. CAMFEBA is a key labour market institution for advocacy and policy positioning to bring forward common needs, views and positions of private sector enterprises as well as provide technical services to its members. Being the leading private sector representative in Cambodia, CAMFEBA has worked closely with her members as well as all counterparts such as the government, trade unions, and the International Labor Organization (ILO) in terms of corporate social responsibilities. CAMFEBA is financially supported by the Norwegian government through the ILO?s Bureau for Employers Activities (ILO ACT/EMP) to implement this YEP project. This project was launched in Cambodia in June 2007. Even though CAMFEBA is the implementing agency, the Project is not managed by CAMFEBA alone but by a so-called Project Advisory Committee, which is the Tripartite-plus body whose members are representatives from the Government, employers, trade unions, NGOs and universities. Being a non-profit, non-political project, YEP Project mainly aims to create decent work and promote income opportunities for young people in Cambodia through matching the skills supplied with the skills demanded in the labor market in order that the youth challenges in searching for decent jobs and the employers? difficulties in finding human resources with the right skills can be addressed simultaneously. |
